Indian Army Recruitment Eligibility 2024

Educational Qualifications:

Candidates applying for the position must meet the following educational qualifications:
  • Possess a relevant Engineering Degree or be in the final year of an Engineering Degree course.
  • Candidates in the final year of their engineering degree program must be able to provide evidence of passing the Engineering Degree Examination, including mark sheets for all semesters/years, by January 1, 2025.
  • They must produce the Engineering Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from the commencement of training at the Indian Military Academy (IMA).
  • Applicants falling under this category will be inducted on an Additional Bond Basis, obligating them to reimburse the cost of training at IMA, along with stipends and pay & allowances paid, should they fail to furnish the necessary degree certificate within the stipulated timeframe.

Nationality:

Eligibility based on nationality for a certain position requires that the candidate must be one of the following:
  • A citizen of India.
  • A subject of Nepal.

A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries including Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates from categories (ii) and (iii) must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, affirming their status and intent to settle in India permanently. However, this certificate is not required for candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. Applicants who need a certificate of eligibility must attach it along with their application forms to prove their status and comply with regulatory requirements for the application process.

Indian Army Recruitment Age Limit 2024

  • Age Limit: 20 to 27 years as of 01 Jan 2025. (Candidates born between 02 Jan 1998 and 01 Jan 2005, both dates inclusive). 

Indian Army Recruitment Training at IMA, Dehradun

(a) Training Assignment: Candidates who pass the selection process will be assigned to training at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. Placement in training depends on their merit ranking in the engineering category and availability of vacancies, provided all eligibility criteria are met.

(b) Training Duration: The training will last approximately 12 months.

(c) Marriage and Residence Restrictions During Training:
  • Candidates are not allowed to marry during the training period.
  • They cannot live with parents or guardians while training.
  • Any candidate who marries during the training will be discharged and must repay all costs incurred by the government. Additionally, candidates who marry after applying but before induction will have their candidature canceled.

(d) Training Costs:

  • The government covers all costs of training at IMA.
  • If a candidate withdraws from the academy for non-medical or non-compelling personal reasons, they must repay the training costs at a rate of ₹16,260 per week, with an annual increase of 8%.

(e) Military Service Pay: Officers will receive a Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month, which is fixed from the rank of Lieutenant up to Brigadier.

(f) Final Allocation of Arms/Services: Before graduation from the academy, the allocation of specific arms or services to the cadets will be determined by the Ministry of Defence (Army). This decision is based on current policies and the needs of the army, without consideration for personal preferences. No appeals or objections will be entertained regarding these assignments.

  • Lieutenant Colonel: Level 12A, ₹1,21,200 - ₹2,12,400

  • Brigadier: Level 13A, ₹1,39,600 - ₹2,17,600
  • Major General: Level 14, ₹1,44,200 - ₹2,18,200
  • Lieutenant General (HAG Scale): Level 15, ₹1,82,200 - ₹2,24,100
  • Lieutenant General (HAG + Scale): Level 16, ₹2,05,400 - ₹2,24,400
  • Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS)/Army Commander/Lieutenant General (NFSG): Level 17, ₹2,25,000 (fixed)
  • Chief of Army Staff (COAS): Level 18, ₹2,50,000 (fixed)
  • Military Service Pay (MSP) to the Officers from ₹15,500/- Per month fixed.

Stipend to Gentlemen Cadets during the entire duration of training in Service Academy i.e. during the training period at IMA, Dehradun. ₹56,100/- Per month (Starting Pay in Level10 of Pay Matrix)

Allowances:

Transport Allowance (TPTA):

  • In major cities (listed as Higher Tpt Cities): ₹7,200 per month + DA.
  • In other places: ₹3,600 per month + DA.
  • Not applicable if government transport is provided, or for periods entirely covered by leave.
  • Officers in Pay Level 14 and above can choose between an official car or TPTA of ₹15,750 per month + DA.
  • Physically disabled service personnel receive double the TPTA, with a minimum of ₹2,250 + DA per month.

Children Education Allowance (CEA): ₹2,250 per month per child for two eldest children, from Nursery to 12th Class. Reimbursement is annual, based on certification from the educational institution.

Hostel Subsidy: ₹6,750 per month per child for the two eldest children, applicable from Nursery to 12th class.

Army Group Insurance Fund (AGIF):

Gentlemen Cadets are insured for ₹1 crore; monthly subscription of ₹10,000.

In case of severe disability due to service, compensation ranges from ₹25 lakh to ₹5 lakh based on disability level. A ₹50,000 Ex-Gratia is granted for less than 20% disability, not applicable for pre-enrollment diseases, substance abuse, or disciplinary withdrawals.

Note: All allowances may increase by 25% whenever the Dearness Allowance increases by 50%. Pay and allowances are also subject to periodic revisions.

Indian Army Recruitment Selection Procedure

The selection procedure for entering the Indian Army through this specific recruitment pathway involves several stages, outlined as follows:

Shortlisting of Applications:

  • Applications are shortlisted based on the cutoff percentage set for each engineering discipline/stream.
