KVS Admission 2024 Age Limit

When planning for a child's admission into Kendriya Vidyalayas, it's crucial to understand the age requirements set for each class level. For admission into Class I, a child needs to be 6 years old by the 31st of March in the academic year they're seeking admission. This rule also kindly includes children born on the 1st of April.

The age criteria for admissions to various classes in Kendriya Vidyalayas are carefully outlined below, ensuring that each child fits into the appropriate age group for their academic journey. It's important to note that for each class, there's a specific minimum and maximum age requirement as of the 31st March of the year in which admission is sought:
  • Class I: Must be 6 years but less than 8 years old.
  • Class II: Must be 7 years but less than 9 years old.
  • Class III - IV: Each must be at least 8 years but less than 10 years old.
  • Class V: Must be 9 years but less than 11 years old.
  • Class VI: Must be 10 years but less than 12 years old.
  • Class VII: Must be 11 years but less than 13 years old.
  • Class VIII: Must be 12 years but less than 14 years old.
  • Class IX: Must be 13 years but less than 15 years old.
  • Class X: Must be 14 years but less than 16 years old.
Additional Notes:

With the implementation of changes in the age criteria starting from the 2022–23 session for Class I, expect a progressive adjustment in the age limits for subsequent classes in future sessions.

The maximum age limit may be relaxed by up to two years for Children with Special Needs (CwSN), at the Principal's discretion.

For Class XI, there is no age restriction, provided the admission is sought in the same year as passing Class X. Similarly, for Class XII, there are no age limits as long as the student has had no break in their continuous study after Class XI.

Reservations in KVS Admission 2024 - 25

In alignment with the commitment to ensure educational opportunities for all segments of society, Kendriya Vidyalayas uphold a policy of reservation in admissions for different social categories. This inclusive approach is designed to provide equal educational opportunities and foster a diverse academic environment. The reservation percentages for fresh admissions in all Kendriya Vidyalayas are as follows:

Scheduled Caste (SC): 15% of the seats are reserved for students belonging to the Scheduled Caste category. This reservation is intended to support SC students in accessing quality education and overcoming social disadvantages.

Scheduled Tribe (ST): 7.5% of the seats are earmarked for students from the Scheduled Tribe category. This reservation acknowledges the unique challenges faced by ST communities and aims to promote their educational advancement.

Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL): 27% of the seats are reserved for students from the Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer). This reservation is aimed at assisting students from these communities in overcoming educational and social hurdles, facilitating a more equitable access to quality education.

These reservations ensure that students from SC, ST, and OBC-NCL backgrounds have meaningful opportunities to benefit from the educational offerings of Kendriya Vidyalayas, reflecting a commitment to social justice and the empowerment of historically marginalized communities.

Children with Special Needs (CwSN) Category

3% seats of total available seats for fresh admission will be horizontally reserved for Children with Special Needs (CwSN).

Fresh KVS Admission For Class 10 and Class 12

Kendriya Vidyalayas will open new admissions for Grades X and XII to students from non-KV backgrounds, conditional upon the existence of open seats. The Principal may permit these admissions if the class size for Grades X or XII falls below 32 students. Admissions will be contingent upon the fulfillment of specific criteria:
  • The student must have been previously enrolled in a school affiliated with CBSE.
  • Applicants to Grade X are required to have achieved a minimum of 55% in aggregate in Grade IX.
  • Candidates for Grade XII admission must have secured at least 55% in their Grade XI final exams.
  • The applicant must meet all other criteria as outlined in the KVS Admission Guidelines.
  • The student’s chosen subject combination must be offered at the Kendriya Vidyalaya.
  • Initial admissions will be prioritized for categories 1 and 2 in Civil and Defence sector KVs, and categories 1 to 3 in IHL/Project sector KVs.
  • Refer to the KVS Admission Guidelines 2024-25 for detailed information.

How to apply for KVS Admission 2024 - 25

1. Publicity: The Regional Office will advertise online registrations for Class-I in local newspapers, as scheduled by KVS Headquarters. The advertisement will clarify that Kendriya Vidyalayas are open to all, not just Central Government employees, though admission priorities and reservations (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and CwSN under RTE Act 2009) are in place.

2. KVS Registration 2024:
  •    - Registrations will only occur if there are vacancies. If vacancies arise later, registration may reopen with local publicity.
  •    - If initial registrations don't fill all seats, a second advertisement may announce remaining vacancies.
  •    - Admissions need approval from the Vidyalaya's Executive Committee. If full admission is not approved, the Principal must report to the Deputy Commissioner, who can authorize full admissions.
  •    - For Class XI, registration starts right after Class X results are announced, aiming to fill up within 30 days. If there's an issue achieving full class strength, the Deputy Commissioner can approve admissions to the full strength within 30 days of the results.
  •    - Registration forms are provided free by the Principal. For Class-I, registration is online. Completed forms, with all necessary documents, must be submitted by the deadline announced by KVS.
  •    - Applicants must attach attested copies of required documents with their registration form.

KVS Admission 2024 Documents Required

Age Proof:

For Class I, a birth certificate from a recognized authority (e.g., Municipality, Military Hospital records) is needed. For other classes, the date of birth on a previous school's transfer certificate is accepted. The original birth certificate is returned after verification. Up to Class-VIII, admission can be given with just a birth certificate, assuming eligibility is met.

Caste/Category Certificate:

Applicable certificates for SC/ST/EWS/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/BPL, issued by authorized government bodies. Initially, a parent's certificate may be accepted for admission, but the child's certificate is required within three months.

A certificate from a civil surgeon or competent authority, confirming the child is CwSN. If the disability is visible, the principal may provisionally accept the child as CwSN, advising the certificate be obtained later.

A document showing any transfers in the last 7 years for parents in service, to be verified for authenticity.
