TNPSC CCSE Exam Pattern

The Combined Civil Services Examination - I (Group-I Services) consists of two main stages:

Preliminary Examination: This is an objective-type exam aimed at selecting candidates for the Main Examination. The marks from the Preliminary Examination are only used for qualifying to the Main Examination and do not count towards the final merit list.

Main Examination: This includes both a written exam and an interview, designed to select candidates for various positions.

Additional Details:
  • The Preliminary Exam acts as a filter to select candidates for the Main Exam.
  • Candidates who pass the Preliminary Exam will be chosen for the Main Exam based on minimum qualifying marks specified in the notification.
  • The Main Exam will admit candidates up to 20 times the number of available positions, following reservation rules. If candidates have the same marks as the cut-off for their reservation group, they too will be admitted even if it exceeds the 1:20 ratio.
  • Verification of documents will be done digitally before the Main Exam. There will be no alternate list for candidates who fail to submit necessary documents for verification.
  • The Main Exam comprises four descriptive papers. Paper I is qualifying in nature, while the marks from Papers II, III, and IV, along with the Interview marks, are considered for ranking.
  • Depending on the reservation category and the number of vacancies, the ratio of candidates admitted to the Interview may vary. The Interview carries 100 marks without a set minimum qualifying score.
  • Final selection is based on combined scores from Papers II, III, IV of the Main Exam and the Interview, adhering to reservation policies. Candidates' positions in the counselling process will be determined by their overall ranking.
