Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria and the admission process for candidates seeking to enroll in trade courses at Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Industrial Training Centers (ITCs), Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Government ITIs, and private ITIs in the State of West Bengal.

Local Educational Background: Candidates who have completed their qualifying education from a school located within West Bengal are eligible to apply for admission to the mentioned institutions.

Admission Process: Admission to a specific institute or trade will be determined through an e-counseling process. This process takes into account the applicant's rank in the merit list as well as their trade and institute preferences, which will be collected online at a later date.

Current Year Candidates: For students who are appearing for the Madhyamik examination (or its equivalent) in the current year, a grace period of 7 days will be provided for application submission after the announcement of the Madhyamik or equivalent examination results.

Special Conditions for Previously Admitted or Passed Out Trainees

Restrictions on Re-Admission: Trainees who have previously been admitted to or have passed out from any Government ITI, ITC, JP, or PPP Government ITI are subject to certain restrictions regarding re-admission:

  • These individuals are ineligible for admission into the same ITI for three consecutive years following their year of passing out.
  • Additionally, they are not eligible for admission into any other ITIs for one year following their passing out year, excluding the actual year they completed their course.

This structured approach ensures fair access to vocational training opportunities while managing the demand and resource allocation efficiently across the state's vocational training institutions.

EXAMPLE: A trainee who graduates from ITI Gariahat (CTS) in July 2021 will be ineligible for enrollment at ITI Gariahat for the academic years starting in August 2022, 2023, and 2024. Similarly, a trainee completing their course at ITI Gariahat (CTS) in July 2023 will be barred from entering any Government ITI for the academic session beginning in August 2024.

Trainees who were previously admitted but dropped out or were discharged from any Government ITI/ITC/JP will not be eligible for admission into the same ITI for three years following the end of their intended training period, and for one year in any other ITIs.

For instance, a trainee enrolled for a 2-year trade in August 2019 or a 1-year trade in August 2020 at ITI Gariahat (CTS) who then dropped out or was discharged, cannot be admitted to ITI Gariahat for the academic years starting in August 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Additionally, a trainee enrolled for a 2-year trade in August 2021 or a 1-year trade in August 2022 at ITI Gariahat (CTS) who later dropped out or was discharged, will be ineligible for admission into any Government ITI for the academic session beginning in August 2024.

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 14 years old as of August 1, 2024, meaning they must have been born before August 1, 2010. There is No maximum age limit for applicants.

Academic requirements

M Group Trades: To be eligible for M Group trades, candidates must have successfully passed the Madhyamik examination (or its equivalent) from a recognized board. This qualification is typically for more technically advanced trades that require a higher level of education.

E Group Trades: Eligibility for E Group trades requires a minimum education level of having passed Class Eight from a recognized school. These trades may focus on skills and vocations that do not necessitate the completion of higher secondary education.

It's important to note that candidates aiming for admission into Engineering Group trades must have passed their Madhyamik or equivalent examination with Mathematics and Physical Science as subjects. This prerequisite underscores the importance of a basic understanding of these subjects in engineering-related trades.

Applicants have the flexibility to apply for both M Group and E Group trades, provided they meet the respective eligibility criteria for each group. This dual eligibility allows candidates to consider a wider range of vocational training options based on their educational qualifications.
