The State Bank of India (SBI) Circle Based Officer (CBO) exam is a competitive process designed to assess candidates' proficiency and suitability for the role. 

The selection process consists of three phases: an Online Test, Screening, and an Interview. The Online Test is divided into an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test. The Objective Test, lasting 2 hours, covers English Language, Banking Knowledge, General Awareness/Economy, and Computer Aptitude, totaling 120 marks. 

The Descriptive Test, lasting 30 minutes, assesses English writing skills through letter writing and essay tasks, contributing an additional 50 marks. Successful candidates in the Online Test proceed to the Screening phase, where their experience and job profiles are evaluated. 

The final phase is an Interview, carrying 50 marks, where candidates must meet minimum qualifying criteria. The final selection is based on combined scores from the Online Test and Interview, with a 75:25 weightage ratio, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of each candidate's abilities and qualifications.

The SBI CBO Exam Pattern consists of three phases:

Phase I: Online Test

The online test is divided into two parts: Objective Test and Descriptive Test.

Objective Test:

Descriptive Test:

• Duration: 30 minutes

• Marks: 50

• Details: Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay) with two questions.

• Note: There is no penalty for wrong answers. No sectional qualifying marks, but there are minimum qualifying marks on aggregate as decided by the Bank.

Phase II: Screening

• Process: The online application and documents of candidates who qualify the online examination will be reviewed by a Screening Committee.
• Criteria: The Committee will verify whether candidates meet the required experience criteria and match the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist Officer at SBI.
• Outcome: Applications that do not match the required job profile will be rejected. A merit list will be drawn Circle-wise and Category-wise based on the aggregate marks scored in the Online Test for candidates who fulfill the experience criteria.

Phase III: Interview

• Marks: 50
• Minimum Qualifying Marks: Decided by the Bank.
• OBC Candidates: Must submit an OBC certificate with the 'Non-Creamy layer' clause.

Final Selection

• Qualification: Candidates must qualify in both the Online Test and the Interview separately.
• Weightage: Online Test (75%) and Interview (25%).
• Merit List:
  • Marks from the Online Test (out of 170) are converted to 75 marks.
  • Interview scores (out of 50) are converted to 25 marks.
  • Final merit list (Circle-wise and Category-wise) is based on these converted marks (out of 100).

     • Topics: Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Synonyms, Antonyms, Sentence Correction, Para Jumbles, Cloze Test, Error Spotting, Fill in the Blanks.
     • Purpose: To test the candidate’s proficiency in the English language.
  2. Banking Knowledge
     • Topics: Basic Banking Terms, Indian Financial System, Banking History, Current Banking News, Banking Products and Services, RBI Functions and Policies, Financial Institutions, Bank Accounts, KYC, Money Market, Capital Market, NPA, Basel Norms, Banking Regulations.
     • Purpose: To assess the candidate’s knowledge about the banking sector.
  3. General Awareness/Economy
     • Topics: Current Affairs, Indian Economy, Global Economy, Economic Policies, Government Schemes, Budget, International Organizations, Economic Surveys, National and International Events, Financial Awareness.
     • Purpose: To evaluate the candidate’s general awareness and understanding of the economy.
  4. Computer Aptitude
     • Topics: Basic Computer Operations, Software and Hardware, Networking, Internet, MS Office, Cyber Security, Computer Terminology, Shortcuts, Computer Generations.
     • Purpose: To check the candidate’s basic computer knowledge and aptitude.

• Format: Each section is timed separately, and candidates must manage their time effectively.

Descriptive Test:

• Duration: 30 minutes
• Total Marks: 50
• Content: Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay)
  • Letter Writing: Formal and informal letters based on given scenarios.
  • Essay Writing: Essays on current topics, social issues, economic matters, banking and financial topics.
  • Purpose: To assess the candidate’s writing skills, coherence, grammar, and ability to express thoughts clearly.

II. Screening

• Process: Candidates who qualify the Online Test will have their applications and documents reviewed by the Screening Committee.
• Criteria: The committee will verify whether candidates meet the required experience criteria and match the job profile of a Scale-I Generalist Officer at SBI.
• Outcome: Applications that do not meet the criteria or whose job profiles do not match the required profile will be rejected.
• Merit List: A Circle-wise and Category-wise merit list will be drawn based on the aggregate marks scored in the Online Test.

III. Interview

• Total Marks: 50
• Minimum Qualifying Marks: To be decided by the Bank.
• Process: Candidates will be evaluated on their knowledge, communication skills, confidence, and suitability for the role.
• OBC Candidates: Must submit an OBC certificate with the 'Non-Creamy layer' clause.
