Overview of Modi 3.0 Government:

On June 10th, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated ministerial portfolios to his Council of Ministers. The Union Cabinet held its first meeting at the Prime Minister's official residence. Most of the prominent leaders retained their previous roles, including veterans like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S. Jaishankar, who continue to lead the ministries of Home Affairs, Defence, Finance, and External Affairs, respectively.

BJP’s Electoral Performance in 2024

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party in the 18th Lok Sabha, securing 240 seats, down from 303 in 2019 and 282 in 2014. Despite the reduced tally, the BJP was able to form the government. The Indian National Congress (INC), the principal opposition, secured 99 seats.

Composition of the New Council of Ministers

As per the Constitution of India, the total strength of the council of ministers cannot exceed 15% of the total number of Lok Sabha members, which currently stands at 543 MPs. Therefore, the council of ministers cannot have more than 81 members. In this term, there are 72 ministers in total, including the Prime Minister, divided into:
