MS vs OMS: The Ultimate Competition Analysis

For those who are new to this system, the MH CET Law exam divides students strictly into two massive groups: Maharashtra State (MS) candidates and Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates. Let me tell you, the fight for OMS students is very tough because seats are limited (usually around 15% for all India quota). Let us analyze the numbers released in today's final merit list.

Particulars OMS (Outside Maharashtra) MS (Maharashtra State)
Total Candidates Registered 1,890 46,287
Confirmed Candidates in Merit List 1,587 38,123
Document Discrepancy (Errors) 303 8,164
Average CET Percentile 72.5 55.9
Male Candidates 1,160 30,496
Female Candidates 730 15,787

Desi Insight: Look at the table above! More than 8,000 local students made mistakes in their document uploads. This is why we always scream and shout on our blog at Barristery to keep your caste certificates, non-creamy layer certificates, and degree marksheets ready months in advance. Because of these small mistakes, many high-scorers lose their Round 1 seats!

What Happens After the Final Merit List? Understanding the CAP Round Process

Alright, so your name is on the final merit list. Now what? Do you pack your bags for Mumbai? NO! The game has just started. This entire admission dance is called the Centralised Admission Process (CAP). Here is a simple, desi explanation of what happens next:

  1. Option Form Filling: Very soon, the CET Cell will open a window where you have to select the colleges you want to join in order of preference. (e.g., Preference 1: GLC, Preference 2: ILS). Be very smart here.
  2. Seat Allotment Round 1: The computer will match your rank with your college preference. If you scored 99.8 percentile and put GLC as first, boom! You get allotted.
  3. Freeze or Float: Once allotted, you have two choices. If you love the college, you "Freeze" the seat, pay a nominal seat acceptance fee online, and go to the college physically with documents to take admission. If you want a better college in the next round, you select "Float" or "Betterment".
  4. Round 2 and Round 3: The same process repeats for vacant seats. After 3 official CAP rounds, if seats are still empty, colleges conduct Institute Level rounds (Spot Admissions).

Important Documents Required for Admission Validation

When you go to the college to finalize your admission, they will check your original documents. If a single document is missing, your seat will be cancelled right on the spot and given to someone else. Make a clear file and keep these ready:

  • MH CET Law 2026 Scorecard / Result Copy
  • MH CET Law 2026 Admit Card (Hall Ticket)
  • Printout of the CAP Registration Form
  • Seat Allotment Letter (You will download this after Round 1)
  • 10th and 12th Class Original Marksheets and Passing Certificates
  • Graduation Degree Marksheets (All 3 or 4 years) - Very important for 3-year LLB!
  • School/College Leaving Certificate (TC)
  • Domicile Certificate (Must for Maharashtra candidates to claim MS quota)
  • Caste Certificate, Caste Validity, and Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate valid up to March 2027 (Only for reserved categories)
  • Passport size photographs (Keep at least 10 copies)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. I forgot my application number, how can I check the merit list?

Don't worry! The merit list PDF is completely open. Just open the PDF and search using your Full Name (Surname first, exactly as you wrote in the application form). You will find your rank easily.

2. My name is in the 'Alphabetical List' but missing from the 'Final Merit List'. Why?

This usually happens if your documents were rejected during the e-scrutiny process and you failed to clear the grievance within the given time limit. Check the 'List of Not Considered Candidates' to see the exact reason. You might have to try again in Round 2 as an Open category candidate.

3. Can OMS candidates claim reservation?

No! Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) candidates are treated as General/Open category, irrespective of their caste in their home state. All India seats are purely based on open merit.

4. Is the final merit list out for 5-Year LLB too?

No, currently the final merit list is OUT only for the 3-Year LLB course (for graduates). The 5-Year LLB (for 12th pass students) final merit list is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2026.

5. Will there be an institute level round this year?

Yes, absolutely. After the 3 CAP rounds are completed in August 2026, the remaining vacant seats will be filled via the Institute-Level round (Spot round). However, it is highly risky to depend on this for top colleges like GLC or ILS, as their seats get full by Round 2 itself.

Final Words and Next Steps

A massive congratulations to everyone who made it to the top ranks in the MH CET 3-year LLB Final Merit List 2026. Law is a beautiful, powerful, and highly respected profession. Securing a seat in a good NLU or state college is the first step towards a bright career.

Now, do not get lazy. Start keeping a close eye on the official portal for the choice-filling dates. Make a realistic college preference list based on your percentile. Don't fill GLC as your only option if your score is 70 percentile—you will get kicked out of Round 1! Play smart, talk to seniors, and keep your files ready.
