About the Opportunity

The Central Law College National Moot Court Competition 2026 is designed to provide law students with a national platform to demonstrate their abilities in legal research, memorial drafting, analytical reasoning and oral advocacy.

The competition will simulate different stages of a courtroom advocacy process and will include a Researcher's Test, Preliminary Rounds, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final Round.

Competition Focus:

Participants will be expected to analyse the moot proposition, conduct legal research, prepare written submissions and present persuasive oral arguments before the judging panel.

Theme of the Moot Proposition

The moot proposition deals with significant constitutional and criminal-law questions relating to physician-administered active euthanasia.

The fictional academic proposition raises questions concerning the right to die with dignity and the constitutional protections available under Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.

Major Legal Issues

• Constitutional questions surrounding the right to die with dignity.
• Applicability and interpretation of Article 14.
• Applicability and interpretation of Article 21.
• Distinction between withholding or withdrawing life-sustaining treatment and intentionally administering a lethal substance.
• Relevant provisions and exceptions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The moot proposition is a fictional academic problem prepared exclusively for the purposes of the competition.

Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open to bona fide students enrolled in an undergraduate law programme at a recognised College, Institution or University.

• Undergraduate law students from recognised institutions are eligible.
• Each institution may send one or more teams, subject to the applicable competition rules.
• Participants must comply with all eligibility and procedural requirements contained in the official Rulebook.

Team Composition

Teams may consist of either two or three members.

Three-Member Team

• Two Speakers
• One Researcher

Two-Member Team

• Both members shall be designated as Speakers.
• One of the two members shall additionally be designated as Researcher.

Important Team Rule:

An additional team member or team coach is not permitted.
