TNSET 2024 Age Limit

There is no upper age limit in applying for TNSET.

TNSET 2024 Qualification

General candidates need at least 55% in their Master’s Degree from UGC-recognized institutions to apply for TNSET. SC/ST/PwD/Third gender candidates need a minimum of 50%.
Candidates still completing their Master's degree or awaiting final year results can apply but must achieve the required marks to qualify for Assistant Professor roles. They have two years after the TNSET result to fulfill this requirement.
Ph.D. holders who completed their Master’s by 19 September 1991 get a 5% marks relaxation, needing only 50% to qualify.
Applicants should only apply in their Post-Graduation subject area. If the subject isn’t available in TNSET, they may consider UGC-NET or CSIR-UGC Test.
Candidates with post-graduate diplomas or degrees from Indian or foreign institutions should verify their qualifications' equivalence with recognized Indian universities through the AIU.

TNSET 2024 Exam Pattern

TNSET follows the UGC-NET pattern, consisting of two objective-type, multiple-choice question (MCQ) papers in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, without breaks between them.

Paper I is common for all candidates and assesses general awareness, teaching aptitude, research skills, reasoning, comprehension, and mathematical ability. It has 50 questions worth 100 marks.

Paper II focuses on the candidate’s postgraduate (PG) subject area from the TNSET subject list, with 100 questions totaling 200 marks.

Both papers are to be completed in a total duration of 3 hours, with all questions being compulsory. The syllabus aligns with that of UGC-NET/CSIR-NET, and candidates need to refer to these for preparation, as individual syllabi are not provided by Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Tirunelveli.

The question papers are in English, except for language subjects in Paper II, which include Tamil, Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Telugu, and Urdu. Importantly, there is no penalty for wrong answers.
